Fourth. Nurturing Internal Boundaries: Safeguarding the Holiness of Children

In safeguarding the holiness of children, prioritizing the mitigation of internal dangers proves more pivotal than addressing external threats. The peril within stems from the ungodly words and actions of parents, characterized by violent expressions and demeaning facial cues that induce anxiety and undermine self-esteem. These actions involve blaming and criticizing others, leaving a lasting impact as children internalize their parents’ ungodly words through observation, a more powerful form of learning than mere auditory reception.

Regardless of how much one nags, it remains ineffective, as children cannot respect parents who demand certain behaviors without embodying those principles themselves. Parents lacking authority over their children must transition to become authoritative figures, recognizing that children naturally gravitate towards and follow those with influence. Distinguishing authority from authoritarianism, the former involves edifying oneself through the acknowledgment of influence.

To become authoritative parents, the key lies in demonstrating a godly and holy life within the family, setting an example for the community through consistent words and actions. Even if such a lifestyle hasn’t been practiced until now, there is hope, as positive changes in parents create a ripple effect, instilling confidence and a spirit of challenge in children. Accomplishments that were once deemed difficult or unattainable by parents inspire children to adopt a similar positive mindset.

Once authoritative, effective boundary-setting becomes possible, serving as a sturdy fence to protect the child’s safety, health, happiness, and sanctity. Different from controlling children, these boundaries must be maintained without compromise, regardless of the child’s emotions. Established authority fosters respect from children, encouraging them to heed parental advice and make choices that bring happiness to both parents and children. The unwavering authority of parents provides children with a sense of security, acting as a shield against various temptations, indulgences, and deviations, which lose their allure and interest.

Fifth. God’s Mercy in Our Imperfections

Evil undeniably exists in this world, and each of us is flawed due to sin. Imperfection is inherent in every individual, including sincere Christians who may inadvertently teach their children wrong things or display ungodliness. In recognizing our own shortcomings, it becomes imperative to appeal to God’s mercy, seeking protection for our children from the consequences of our mistakes.

Despite numerous errors and missteps, the saving grace of God prevents my children from straying down the wrong path. Even if personal transformation begins late, God remains the source of healing and growth for our children. In His compassionate understanding of our weaknesses, God, who took on human form, personally experienced the trials and tribulations of earthly life. Through His love and faithfulness, He offers salvation to those who humbly rely on Him, taking delight in demonstrating His omnipotence to those who seek His guidance (2 Chronicles 16:9).

Aligning Faith and Words: A Guide to Effective Prayer

When we turn to God for help and express our desires, certain elements come into play. It involves having a genuine understanding and unwavering faith in God—a faith that harbors no doubts about God’s omnipotent ability to rescue us from all sins and problems. It is only when we wholeheartedly believe in this truth that hope begins to take root. There’s a sense of anticipation for a brighter future, providing us with the courage and determination to persevere and confront challenges until the very end.

However, a word of caution is warranted. While we may vocalize our faith in prayers, it is equally crucial to align our thoughts with this faith. Doubts, especially questioning whether God will truly heed our prayers, can render our petitions futile. James’ Epistle aptly describes those who entertain doubt as ‘double-minded and unstable’ (James 1:6-8). Therefore, a conscious and intentional effort is necessary to ensure that our thoughts harmonize with our prayers.

Even more distressing is that such prayers won’t be answered, even after 100 days of praying. If you verbally proclaim your faith but, in real life, express doubts and complaints, you are double-minded. If you verbally pray to bless your children but harbor contempt and disdain in your heart, your prayer won’t come true.

To receive answers to prayer, our prayers to God and the words we utter in our daily lives must align. Here, ‘speech’ encompasses all forms of communication, whether verbal or non-verbal. God stated, “Whatever I hear in my ears, that I will do to you,” and He swore by the living God (Numbers 14:28).

In fact, when unexpected challenges and difficult problems arise, our faith tends to weaken. Thoughts of distrust and doubt rush in, causing us to feel anxious. However, now is the moment to demonstrate our faith. Our faith is anchored in what occupies our thoughts and captures our focus amidst the chaos. If we allow problems to divert our attention, incessantly replay the situation in our minds, and fret about potential larger issues, we’ve essentially lost the game. Because what we consistently imagine and dwell upon tends to materialize in our reality.

But things take a turn when we fix our gaze on God, who surpasses our problems in magnitude. Reflecting on how God has guided us thus far with His immensely powerful arm and expressing gratitude brings calm to our heart. Hope emerges when you deeply contemplate the fact that God created the entire universe with incredible wisdom and power, establishing order, balance, and harmony, and governing it.

Focusing on God’s benevolent, loving, and faithful character generates anticipation. You will conquer your fears. You will muster the courage to persevere without surrendering. And finally, even amid extreme pain, we encounter the grace that God bestows upon those who trust and love Him.

There’s a crucial point to reflect on here. It boils down to the motive behind your prayers for your children. Is it about showcasing ‘I’ by saying, “I raised my children so well”? Or is it genuinely rooted in loyal and sincere love, aiming to pass on the purity of God’s holy children? Even if your prayers go unanswered, can you still love Him and proclaim that ‘God is good’? If your prayers are driven by genuine loyalty and love to fulfill His will, there’s hope for you.

Unshakeable faith and love for God, unaffected by circumstances, will safeguard your heart. You will endure and not lose hope until the end. Ultimately, you will witness God’s salvation. All our thoughts, words, actions, and motives are prayers to God. It’s a confession of faith toward God because we express what we truly believe, say, and do what we genuinely want. When even the motivation behind our prayers aligns with God’s will, we can receive answers as we ask (Matthew 6:33).

Guiding Children with Clarity: The Key to Parental Authority and Lasting Blessings

Maintaining holiness in a world tainted by sin poses a fierce spiritual battle. Winning this battle hinges on understanding who God is, recognizing our own identity, and discerning God’s expectations from us. Regularly and repeatedly delving into the Bible proves immensely beneficial in grasping these truths.

If we genuinely desire our children to lead fulfilling lives, it’s imperative to assist them in upholding the holiness instilled in them. This is because, as beings created in the image of God, experiencing true happiness occurs when we reflect God and attain holiness – the ultimate measure of success. As parents become spiritually awakened, they play a pivotal role in helping their children navigate this ongoing struggle.

Equipping ourselves with the Word and prayer, consistently showcasing victory in the day-to-day challenges that serve as the spiritual battlefield, is crucial. During this process, children develop spiritual sensitivity as they observe the authoritative figures of their parents. In a world often resistant to absolute truth, we consciously make choices that unflinchingly cling to the absolute and ardently pursue holiness.

As parents, it’s crucial for both of us to set clear standards, ensuring our children aren’t left confused. We need the ability to straightforwardly say yes or no. Sending mixed messages not only erodes our children’s trust in us but also undermines our authority as parents. Consistency between our words and actions is key to avoid conveying conflicting messages. Even in prayer, expressing doubt sends a mixed signal. Such double messages don’t work well with children or with God.

We should abandon the life attitude that seeks both worldly and eternal pursuits. The blessings God has prepared are immense for those who wholeheartedly embrace and maintain holiness as the guiding principle, rather than being double-minded.

Conclusion

Many parents hold vague expectations, thinking, ‘If I enroll my child in a good school or church, they’ll grow up well.’ However, the devil is far from naive. He appears before us as both a roaring lion and a deceitful lamb, clouding our vision, hearing, and thoughts.

Now is the moment for us and our children to awaken. It’s time to stand as warriors of faith, dedicated to restoring and safeguarding our lives as holy children of God. A crucial decision is needed to break free from a life torn between worldly standards and God’s principles, opting instead to cling to God’s standards and remain centered. Unwavering faith is essential for living a virtuous life.

Consider the areas of your life where God prompts you to restore holiness. How do you plan to achieve this?

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
